Is it ever okay to break the law to save the planet?

This is the question posed on the title of a youtube clip from Good Morning Britain today. It was addressing the extinction riots that are currently being held in central London, whereby hundreds of protesters have descended upon the city, gluing themselves to trains and the like, in order to raise awareness for climate change. Now, while I personally believe these riots are rather ill informed, I do think the title of this video raises an important point. For me, I really did have to think about this carefully. I always feel I sit on two sides of the fence with issues like this, and thus I always remain in the middle. Either, I think, well philosophically its a no brainer, of course we should be able to break socially constructed contrived laws to save our natural world! But on the other hand, when you actually consider the amount of disruption to normal people's everyday lives, you may think of another way to go about it. Also, I think its worth noting that disrupting people's entire day, or even a holiday, is perhaps going to win you less support for your cause rather than more so. From speaking to people, including my friend who does Geography at my uni, she cant stop telling me how idiotic it all is. From someone who does genuinley care about our the state the world is heading, as well as Im sure most other people do, I am still sat in the middle. But I cant help but think how ill informed these protests have been, to say the least...
